Blanchard taught his son-in-law
and renowned designer Allan Adler (the silversmith to the stars) the
craft of silversmithing and was the one of the founders of the Arts &
Crafts movement in California, after moving from Boston where 5 generations had
been in silversmithing. Blanchard bridged the Arts and Crafts and Modern
movements. Blanchard's exploration into progressive design began with the
silver he exhibited at the 1928 Exhibition of the Decorative Arts at the
National Arts Club in New York.
