Persian originated in
1872 when exotic lands were all in vogue (Japanese, Egyptian, Persian). It is
absolutely striking with its ornate design. It is a beautiful example of the
silver makers art.
Edward Moore, designer
of this pattern, dominated the first era of Tiffany made flatware and designed
several full lines of sterling patterns. Moore's father manufactured for
Tiffany and upon retirement left Edward Moore in charge at the young age of 24.
In 1868 Tiffany incorporated and bought the Moore Company, making Moore a
Tiffany director and chief designer and head of silverware operation. With his
travels, he experienced many exotic cultures and art which significantly
impacted his designs. After his death, his true genius was fully acknowledged
and he as then called "A Prince of Silversmiths.... easily the foremost
silversmith in the United States."
